Several doctors from the Steadman-Philippon Research Instititute (SPRI) (Vail, Colorado) recently visited Brazil. The group included Dr. Peter Millett, Dr. Robert F. LaPrade and Dr. Marc Philippon. Below is an excerpt from a Brazilian publication regarding their visit:
Leandra and Leonardo Metsavaht hosted a dinner in their beautiful Lagoa apartment this weekend. Among the many important names from the medical profession was Marc Philippon, who, according to the host is the most prestigious hip surgeon in the world, who has already treated Brazilians such as Guga and Rodrigo “Minitauro” Nogueira.
Also in attendance during the evening was Dr. Robert F. LaPrade, considered a great knee surgeon for athletes and Peter Millett a renowned shoulder surgeon. The President of the Brazilian Orthopedic Society, Osvandre Lech was also there.
During the dinner, three Brazilians who received the Jorge Paulo Lemann Scientific Research Prize were also recognized: Bruno Schoeder de Sousa, from Minas Gerais State; Leandro Ejnisman for Sao Paulo and Franciso Bruno Gruz from Ceara. It is a full research scholarship for highly qualified Brazilian doctor-researchers which allows them to develop, for one year, their knowledge in bio-mechanics and hip arthroscopy, at the Steadman-Philipon Research Institute. The only proviso is that upon returning to Brazil, they must share, publish and demonstrate all the knowledge gained.
