Abstract:

Elbow injuries occur often among athletes and everyday active people.  While they occur often, orthopedic elbow surgeons still slightly disagree on course of treatment for one particular injury: the distal biceps tendon rupture.  Distal biceps tendon ruptures are a relatively rare occurrence and present themselves with an initial tearing sensation accompanied by acute pain in the elbow region of the arm. Weakness and fatigue in this area often follow.  There are many tests to determine specific injuries of the elbow; Dr. Peter Millett was recently part of an investigation regarding the best way to treat distal biceps tendon ruptures. Several orthopedic elbow surgeons took part in this study to discuss elbow surgeries with both single and two-incision operative repairs involving fixation methods.
