Joint Preservation Innovations Inc. (JPI), a pioneer in next-generation joint preservation technologies, announced that the FDA has granted 510(k) clearance for the Articulator™ Arthroscopic Bur, the first and only FDA-cleared articulating rotary cutting instrument for arthroscopic surgery.
This milestone marks a major advancement for surgeons performing joint-preserving procedures, and underscores the vision of Dr. Peter J. Millett, MD, MSc, who is the Co-Founder of JPI.
An Orthopedic Breakthrough Driven by Surgeon-Led Innovation:
Dr. Peter Millett played a central role in identifying the need for an articulating arthroscopic bur in orthopedic medicine and surgeries.
"Arthroscopic surgeons have long been constrained by the limits of straight burs, especially when working in tight, curved, or obstructed anatomic spaces," said Peter J. Millett, MD, MSc, Co-Founder of JPI. "The Articulator™ Bur was engineered to solve the surgical problems that limited access. The bur improves precision and the ability to perform anatomic joint-preserving procedures."
Redefining What is Possible in Joint Preservation:
The Articulator™ Bur delivers a dramatic leap forward in dexterity and bone-resection capability, offering up to 601% greater cutting surface area compared with traditional straight burs. Its patented articulating mechanism allows surgeons to contour bone with unprecedented control across anatomically constrained joints such as the hip, shoulder, ankle, and elbow.
"This technology creates a brand-new category of enabling hardware for joint preservation," said Hardik Goel, CFO & Co-Founder. "Surgeons can now work more effectively in confined spaces, reduce unnecessary instrument exchanges, and achieve more anatomic resections with less effort."
About Joint Preservation Innovations (JPI):
Joint Preservation Innovations (JPI) is a surgeon-led medical device company dedicated to advancing minimally invasive musculoskeletal surgery. Co-founded Peter J. Millett, MD, MSc, JPI develops category-defining tools that expand what arthroscopic, endoscopic, and robotic procedures can achieve. With more than 25 issued patents, JPI's portfolio is engineered to deliver superior precision, more anatomic resections, and improved patient outcomes across sports medicine, hip preservation, spine, and robotics.
