Abstract:

Symptomatic scapulothoracic bursitis and crepitus are difficult and often poorly understood disorders of the scapulothoracic articulation, and little has been written about arthroscopic or open solutions for refractory pain from this region.  The first step in understanding bursitis and crepitus as described by Kuhn et al., is to recognize the subtle differences between these two related but distinct entities.  Historically, several terms have been used to describe elements of these disorders, including snapping scapula, scapulothoracic syndrome, washboard syndrome and rolling scapula.
