The most common symptoms are painful clicking, grinding or snapping of the shoulder blade area. There are multiple factors that can lead to a snapping scapula: muscle tears, fractures of the shoulder area, exostosis (a bony lump that forms at the top of the bursa), and injuries from rheumatoid disease.

Treatments for Scapulothoracic Bursitis
Arthroscopic procedures can vary to treat depending on the exact symptoms. For example, if you are experiencing ongoing shoulder popping and instability associated with a snapping scapula (shoulder blade) then arthroscopic surgery can be used as a form of treatment. This particular procedure, which is not widely available, has been refined by Dr. Millett and involves removing bone spurs and inflamed tissue to restore full painless motion. Recovery is typically quick, and sometimes can even be within a few days from the procedure.
