The first Vail International Shoulder Symposium was held in Vail on June 24th and 25th. This two day invitation-only, educational event sponsored by Arthrex, a leading medical device manufacturer in the field of orthopaedics and in sports medicine, featured the former fellows and researchers of Dr. Peter Millett, all of whom either trained with him at Harvard Medical School or The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute.
Over 50 top notch surgeons and researchers from across the globe gathered to discuss best practices and latest techniques in shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty. There were also featured lectures on practice management, changes in health care delivery, and career development. The course included a top-rated faculty who created a very interactive meeting with lots of case-based discussion. The course was highlighted by a live surgery by Dr. Millett, during which he demonstrated the Superior Capsular Reconstruction, an innovative new procedure for the treatment of massive rotator cuff tears. The surgery was broadcast live using Arthrex’s latest Synergy surgical camera technology and the web. The meeting was an overwhelming success with tremendous feedback from all the participants. The next summit is planned for Winter of 2018.
